With eventful winter holidays coming up, every house needs a general cleaning. Many people – after digging through their closets – start wondering where to get all those clothes and shoes they no longer wear?
A warm jacket and winter boots that kids stopped wearing long ago, dresses and lonely trousers – sometimes wardrobes contain things that we no longer need and that no longer fit our grown-up children. There is a better way to use such clothes than just throw them away to a waste dump where they will have to decompose for centuries.
“I donated children’s clothes left from my two daughters to the UWCF program “Let's Improve Children’s Lives” and later on saw kids from a multi-child family wearing those clothes in the photo report. I easily recognized my donations because there were some dresses that I had made myself for my girls. I was so happy that these dresses could be of use for other girls. There is no such things as other people’s children”, says Kyiv’s resident Olena.
UWCF team members hand over clothes, shoes, kitchenware, toys and furniture to volunteers who distribute those among large families, orphans, internally displaced persons, people with disabilities, families in a temporary crisis.
People in need can visit UWCF volunteers and pick up things for themselves.
Our volunteer Oksana Markevych has organized a distribution point for humanitarian aid in urban-type settlement Klavdiyevo-Tarasove in Borodianka District of Kyiv Region. Here all those disadvantaged may come and take whatever they need: clothes, footwear, children’s toys.
“I have three kids. Previously, I used to get clothes from second-hand shops, but now it is too expensive for me to buy there. Ms Oksana offers clothes for free. So it’s the second time that I have come. I help her sort out the clothes and in the process can choose something for my kids”, shares Natalia, a mother of a large family.
“In response to the needs of both those in dire straits and those who want to donate things, and thanks to the initiative and facilitation of the UWCF program “Let's Improve Children’s Lives”, now we can implement this much-needed charity program in Klavdiyevo-Tarasove. This is a huge, permanent resource that helps solve problems for people facing difficult circumstances. Thanks and bow to everyone who has ever donated things to UWCF, everyone who supports and helps with this good cause”, says volunteer Oksana Markevych, showing appreciation to all people who have joined our team in solving this problem.
