Wheelchairs for Avdiyivka

There are billion people live in the world with a certain form of disability (approximately every seventh). It is estimated that 65 million people around the world could benefit from using a wheelchair. However, an estimated 20 million people can’t afford it.

According to the Ministry of Social Policy, there are more than 2 million people with disabilities in Ukraine. Many of them are have to move in wheelchairs.

A wheelchair is a technical wheeled vehicle, it is the first step towards integration into society for many people with loss of the functions of the musculoskeletal system, it means to have the opportunity for self-realization.

Last year, in Ukraine, the Special Transport for People with Disabilities Program was launched of the Association for the Promotion of Medicine, UWC Foundation and the International Charitable Foundation for the Development of Medicine. Thanks to this action, low-income persons in Ukraine received special new wheelchairs for free use, which are made of high-quality materials and complex construction for ease of transportation, with an adjustable footrest, moving knee pads for easy access.

Now in the country and outside of it all attention is focused on the events in the east of Ukraine. For the fifth year, front-line cities and villages have suffered from military operations, where people have enormous problems.

The philanthropists of the United World Cultures Foundation brought new fifteen wheelchairs for people with loss of the functions of the musculoskeletal system and seventy food packages for members of the Avdyiyvka urban society of persons with disabilities "Overcoming"/ “Preodolenie”.

Welcoming speech to the audience were addressed by: Head of “Overcoming”/“Preodolenie” organization - Nina Koyuda, UWCF Director - Olena Kobets and head of the action “Special Transport for People with Disabilities” of the UWCF Foundation Lysenko Lyudmila.

A real surprise for those present was the transformers show from the event company Oscar art group. The giant robots Optimus Prime and Bumblebee made a splash at the event! Spectators were waiting for exciting adventures and vivid animation with a lot of special effects.

The wards of the Avdyiyvka Urban Society for Persons with Disabilities “Overcoming” express their sincere gratitude to all who joined this event, because wheelchairs for a person with special needs are more necessary than shoes for healthy person.
