Over the past few years, Ukraine's cities have been “overgrown” with murals, and the facades of buildings have become works of art, changing and transforming.
The United World Cultures Foundation has made a selection of Ukraine's largest and most interesting sunflower murals, most of which have long been considered business cards of the cities where they were created, and also tells a little about the history of the origin of the murals.
1. The latest monumental painting, as they say "just from the oven", appeared in front of Avdiyivka in early July 2019 on the facade of school # 7. Everyone knows what the residents of Avdiyivka went through. Just by looking at the school building, where traces of bullets and shells are visible, the soul fades. On April 3, 2019, the results of the competition "Let's Improve Avdiyivka Together!" From “Avdiyivka Coke Plant” METINVEST. For the implementation of the project the UWCF Fund received a Certificate for the amount of 65 thousand UAH, which was solemnly presented by the General Director of “Avdiyivka Coke Plant” Musa Magomedov and the head of the military-civil administration Pavlo Malykhin to the children of school No. 7 and by the principal of the school Silina Lyudmyla. Talent is said to date back to early childhood. And each person is born with a grain in his hand. Streetwright artist Andrii Palval’ and Kailas-V created it with risk for life. Avdiyivka is a flourishing Ukraine. The symbolism of the flowers depicted on the morality is in harmony with the mentality of Avdiyivka: Sunflower is a symbol of sun, peace, happiness and goodness; Poppy is a symbol of love; Chamomile - pure heart; Wheat - abundance, fertility and generosity; Bees - works; Mallows are the flowers of wives and brides who are waiting for the return of dear men from military campaigns.
2. An incredible work of art on a house in the center of Kyiv - the Beregynya mural, which was created in 2016 as part of the “Art United Us” art project on the facade of a house on Taras Shevchenko Lane, 1/2, next to Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The author is Costa Rica artist Mata Ruda. The picture shows a young girl, an immigrant from Azerbaijan, in a traditional Ukrainian shawl with sunflowers painted around. According to Costa Rican artist Mata Ruda, she is the spirit of Slavic mythology, the mother of the hearth, which protects the house from evil.
3. The Sunflowers mural at 4, Anna Akhmatova Street, is a magnificent picture depicting a little Ukrainian woman standing in a field among sunflowers. It has a wreath of flowers on its head and large bubbles over its head, one of which shows Earth with Ukraine in the center. The work was created in 2016 at the initiative of the charity Foundation "Workshop of Goodness", the authors of the drawing - artists from the "Wall street" company.
4. A monumental painting with a girl in an embroidered dress and a wreath is placed on the facade of the house along Starokozatska Street in city of Dnipro. The girl is decorated with a rich necklace and a wreath of national symbols - sunflowers. The shadows on the face give it realism. Mural author Timur said the work is dedicated to the autumn.
5. There is another work on Pyrogova Street in Vinnytsya - the brightest in any weather picture "Sunflowers". The author of the project is Taras Dovgalyuk. An image of bright sunflowers and exotic birds appeared on the wall of the house along Gogol Street. Lviv artist Taras Dovgalyuk created a mural art "Sunflowers and Birds". What is interesting: According to the style of the author, the mural does not occupy the entire surface area, but emerges from the urban space.
6. There is a mural on the building of a thermal system In Kryvyi Rih. Its theme is the Ukrainian courtyard. Since mural has a national subject, artists Andrii Kalinkin and Yevgen Lantushenko have depicted a landscape with huts, a horse, a mallow, and a field with sunflowers. Poppies were also added to the composition. Total wall painting occupies about 300 square meters.
In recent years, artists have decorated the streets of Ukrainian cities with dozens of colorful and large-scale murals. Talented artists have diluted the urban landscape with striking paintings. Gray walls adorn incredible portraits and landscapes.
