"Just Like Me" festival is an event that everyone is waiting for

Date: June 1, 2019

On June 1, on the International Children's Day the fifth annual "Just Like Me" festival has started in Kyiv.

Children with disabilities took part in "Just Like Me" family-Inclusive festival, where great holiday program for boys and girls was prepared. This festival serves as platform for uniting civil society organizations, activists, politicians, philanthropists, companies and citizens around the development of inclusive society.

«Just Like Me family-Inclusive festival became an event that is awaiting by many guests», said organizer of the festival – Olexandra Markova.

Such activities for children with disabilities are very important. It's an opportunity to show your talents, find new friends, to learn something new. However, such measures can give a lot to healthy children - to understand and accept special boys and girls as they are, to discover for them their sensitivity, sincerity and kindness. They can teach us very important thing - to appreciate kindness and not to conceal their good feelings.

«Variety of emotions was welcomed at the "Just Like Me" family-Inclusive festival. It is a platform for dialogue and building contacts, as well as one more step towards building a democratic society, one of the essential features of which is inclusion», - summed up Mykhailo Apostol, founder of the Ternopil Regional Charitable Foundation "APOSTOL", the head of the All-Ukrainian social and humanitarian program "Good for the people".

Volunteer, curator of the International Public Organization "Social Harmony"- Olga Severin and Director of the United World Cultures Foundation - Olena Kobets, said: "Today, there are children who come from different regions of the country. Basically, these are children with mental development disorder. Pupils from Bila Tserkva Orphanage visited the "Just Like Me" festival for the second time."

There were lectures, sports, medical, creative and gaming zones on the festival. Various organizations associated with inclusiveness, presented their activities on the “alley of public organizations". Also there was a food zone, master classes and zones for relax, a charity fair at the festival. It all became a wonderful place for interesting leisure.

Once again, "Walking to the Health Land" program of the UWCF Charitable Fund takes part in "Just Like Me" family-Inclusive festival where it initiates a measurement of blood pressure.

According to the organizers, this festival is a necessary community, because here children and young people learn to be friends, to accept themselves as they are and to destroy their own complexes.

"It is very important that the diagnosis of the child does not lead to isolation," - said Liudmyla Lysenko, UWCF charity fund manager of the "Walking to the Health Land" program.
