Examination of visual acuity of Bedouins of Mousa

Date: May 2021

Every minute on our planet a child turns blind, every six seconds – an adult. Medical workers, charitable foundations are sounding the alarm.

The International Charitable Project "Healthy sight – a clear view of the world" for children and adults" of the Walking to the Health Land program of United World Cultures Foundation / UWCF (Ukraine) and the Program "Children of the Desert" of the International Charitable Fund "Volonter Association "Kryla" (Egypt), which took place in the city of Dakhab and near settlements, provided sight diagnostics, measurement of intraocular pressure, arterial pressure and free-of-charge issuance of glasses.

Our eyes allow us not to lose sight of many trifles, but often remain beyond our attention.

The International Charitable Project "Healthy Sight – a clear view of the world" for Children and adults in cooperation with a representative from local authorities visited the residents of the desert, Mousa Bedouins, one of St. Catherine's villages, in order to check sight acuity, measure intraocular pressure, arterial pressure and issue free glasses.

Women came to the examination wearing niqabs, so we could see only their eyes and heard the words of gratitude for the help to them and their children.

As before, Bedouins are engaged in the construction of monastery buildings and roads, take care of oil and almond gardens.

One of such houses-gardens is inhabited by an elder with his family. He invited representatives of the United World Cultures Foundation to his home. The whole tribe (except for women) gathers near the fire to dine, and after a simple, but delicious meal guests are treated with coffee.

Coffee for Bedouins is not just a drink, it is a sort of symbol of hospitality. As in Ukraine dear guests are greeted with bread and salt, so the guests of Bedouins are always treated with coffee. The first portion, of course, comes to the dearest and most desirable guests.
