One of the brightest visual arts is cinema.
Children Kinofest is one of the most popular festivals shows the latest European movies and the world film classics to Ukrainian children. Founded in 2014, it takes place in 23 cities of Ukraine. Last year more than 42,000 spectators visited the festival.
The mission of the festival is to present in Ukraine the tradition of family trips to the cinema. One of the most important tasks of the Children's Film Festival is to open for adults the world of children.
This year, Children Kinofest unites efforts with the “Tabletochki” charitable foundation and the participants of the festival helped children with oncological diseases in Ukraine.
Friends of the “Let’s Improve Children’s Lives” program of the UWCF also came to the Kievan Rus cinema. These are children from large families, young friends, volunteers from the “Pervotsvit” folk group of the Kyiv Children's Art School № 2 named by M. Verikivsky (head by Yulia Gershtun), adolescents and young people with disabilities of the “Gornyatko Dobroty” project of the “Rodyna” Public Organization, children from the eastern regions and the Crimea, who temporarily live in “Dzherelo” pension.
Also, at the festival, friends of the Charitable Foundation received a sweet “Barni” biscuits from the Kyiv City Charitable Fund “FoodBank”.
Children Kinofest, the 6th festival of cinema arts for children and teenagers, was finished by the Grand Prix winner of last year, the fantasy film “The Stronghold” of Yuriy Kovalyov, is a Ukrainian adventure film based on the same-name book. A present-day schoolboy goes a thousand years into past. In 2018, the film became the first Ukrainian winner of the Children's Film Festival, one of the leaders in box office sales of national films, collecting more than 19 million UAH at the box office. The rights to “The Stronghold” were sold to more than 25 countries. Large-scale shooting took place in the Carpathians, granite quarries and marshes of the Kyiv region.
“The Stronghold” movie proved that Ukrainian cinema also could be interesting.
