In the vast majority of rural settlements, there are no pharmacies or drugstores. That is why not every patient, especially if the person is lonely, has the opportunity to go to the regional center for medicines.
The UWCF’s program “Walking to the Health Land” has teamed up with All-Ukrainian Public Committee for the Agrarian Reform to provide medicines donated by the Arterium Pharmaceutical Corporation to patients from rural areas.
It is useless to hope for expansion of the network of pharmacies. The owners do not show any desire to open their pharmacies in small villages: nobody is going to work at a loss. “If the villages gave pharmacies the opportunity to make at least a small profit, this gap would be filled, but until then… I pack my car full of medicines and deliver them to the villages: hand them over to paramedics, families in need and lonely elderly people. And while communicating with people, I support them with a friendly chat. One third of the population of Ukraine lives in rural areas”, commented Zinovii Kholodniuk, head of All-Ukrainian Public Committee for the Agrarian Reform.
The UWCF’s program “Walking to the Health Land” has donated medicines for the rural population of the Kyiv Region for the total of UAH 684 800.
