Bringing the Holiday Closer: Christmas Art Practice for Boys from Bila Tserkva Care Center

Date: 29 December 2019

As we approach a New Year, everyone expects a miracle. And it may not be something outstanding or magical. Sometimes, all people need is other people bringing them a bit of joy and sharing their sympathy.

On 29 December 2019, our UWCF team joined efforts with the volunteer organization Social Harmony and made a trip to Bila Tserkva Children’s Residential Care Home for boys.

At this place, time really flies: kids are always happy to see visitors because they know every visit is meant for good. The volunteers brought some art practice kits to Bila Tserkva’s center for developing fine motor skills in its young patients. This time, the boys were making Christmas cards with pictures of bears and penguins.

Our foundation’s team members didn’t come open-handed either: we brought many toys and puzzles (they seemed the biggest joy for the boys). These things had been donated by the volunteer organization FRIENDS. They, together with one of Kyiv’s schools, had managed to collect a carload of useful things, books, clothes, and toys for charity and decided to share some with us.

These trips are indeed more important than they might seem. Each one of the boys carries light in him that never ceases to amaze. However, the nicest thing is to receive an emotional feedback from them. Because it is now really hard to get as much sincerity in the world as you get from children.

As a reminder, United World Cultures Foundation regularly visits residential care centers for special kids, and also helps children in Avdiivka and children seeking to develop their talents. It’s been just recently that we have visited Specialized Comprehensive Residential School in Korostyshiv, organized a visit to Kyiv for Avdiivka’s schoolchildren to have a guided tour around the Ukrainian Government Building, arranged a holiday trip for girls from Puhachiv Psychoneurological Treatment and Residential Care Center and encouraged kids from Kyiv City Rehabilitation Centre to open up about their dreams and pursue them.
