Throughout the whole quarantine period, the campaign “Let’s Unite against the Coronavirus 2019-nCoV (COVID-19) and Walk to the Health Land” of the UWCF’s program “Walking to the Health Land”, together with students of Medical Faculty No. 3, Pediatrics Department of Bogomolets National Medical University, volunteers of detdom.info and the leaders of students’ self-government of Solomenka District educational institutions, headed by teachers from the Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity of Solomenka District in Kyiv, kept monitoring the situation at the Communal Institution “Puhachiv Psychoneurological Treatment and Residential Care Centre” (Berezneve village in Korosten District of Zhytomyr Region), for children suffering from mental retardation at the imbecility stage and Down syndrome of the 3rd and 4th disability categories. When we read the news about 10 confirmed cases of coronavirus in a psychoneurological residential care centre in Kharkiv Region, our first reaction was to pick up a phone and call Lesia Petrenko, director of the Communal Institution “Puhachiv Psychoneurological Treatment and Residential Care Centre”, to hear that children are doing well, only missing us a lot.
“We constantly monitor our food supplies, medicines, personal protective equipment in Puhachiv Residential Care Centre. Due to quarantine, visits for relatives, volunteers and charitable foundations are as limited as possible. In order for the institution to be provided with masks, gloves, disinfectants and other necessary things, curator of the volunteer group Oksana Zolotukhina and the UWCF’s program “Walking to the Health Land” announced the gathering of aid”, commented Liudmyla Lysenko, manager of UWCF’s programs and projects.
The inmates are very fond of receiving gifts. Some girls are shy about taking gifts, and some are sincerely happy, just like little Olia who received new orthopedic sneakers and a jeweled summer suit from UWCF.
We expressed our warmth and tenderness through sweets and toys, through gifts from Eucerin, through masks from leather and fur studio KLI&Ko, with the assistance of Olesia Tarasenko, through our benefactors’ donations that they sent us to purchase diapers, shampoos, gels and other necessary things for girls. We thank to INTERPUMPS GROUP LTD for every day filled with love and maximum care for our little girls.
