Within the framework of the festive concerts dedicated to the Day of Kyiv, on May 27, in the building of the Golden Gate and on May 28, 2017 on Sofiyivska Square, on the occasion of the Year of Japan in Ukraine and the 45th anniversary of the friendship of Kyiv and Kyoto, Kyiv citizens and guests of the capital got acquainted with the variety of Japanese culture . The concert program included traditional Japanese dances Yamagaela, nagauta and the “Pictures from the Exhibition” ballet performed by Ranko Fujim, Nobuhiro Terada, Ransho Fujim, Rensei Fujim and students of the Kyiv State Choreographic School. Pianist-virtuoso Manami Kiso became the musical pearl of the concerts.

Japan is extremely rich in its customs and traditions, which originate thousands of years ago. It was opened to the world not so long ago, attracting the beauty of nature, exquisite cuisine and famous Japanese wisdom.

Travelers call Japan the land of samurai. In order to get people to know more about Japanese culture, People's Artist of Ukraine, artistic director of the Kyiv State Choreographic School Nobuhiro Terada invited artists from Japan and initiated concerts dedicated to the Day of Kiev, on May 27 and 28, in the Golden Gate and Sofiyivska Square. The events were held with the support of the Kyiv State City Administration and the United World Cultures Foundation.

The program of the concert included traditional Japanese dances Yamagaila, nagauta and the ”Pictures from the Exhibition” ballet performed by Ranko Fujim, Nobuhiro Terada, Ransho Fujim, Rensei Fujim and students of the Kiev State Choreographic School. The accompaniment of the ballet performed by pianist virtuoso Manami Kiso was a musical pearl of the concert. The audience was impressed by the deep expression and exoticism of the dance.

For this event the UWCF has sewn scenic costumes for the students of the KSCS that have become a bright addition to the performance.

After the concert, on May 27, a solemn planting of the sakuras, led by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Ukraine Shigeki Summe, was held near the Golden Gate building in memory of the year of Japan in Ukraine.
