On 16 December, on the eve of St. Nicholas’ Day, Music School (municipal primary specialized arts school) of Avdiyivka City Council hosted the first festival contest New Year Streamers. The event aimed to develop students’ creative talents on the basis of favourite New Year’s songs, train students’ self-control at the stage and team work skills.
60 children from Avdiyivka city and Ocheretyne urban-type settlement in Donetsk Region who study at the Avdiyivka’s music school, made a wonderful display of their creative talents. 22 musical performances were made by groups of violin players, blockflute players, a guitar quartet, two choirs, guitar and piano duets, as well as solo performers. Young talents Pavlo Semenyuta and Mariya Savkevych, already known to UWCF team members, performed the song What is the New Year? by Yu. Chichkov. Some new stars also revealed their glow at the concert – Viktoriya Kravtsova impressed us with her skilful performance and impeccable feel for music by playing Winter Evening, an amazing piece by M. Schmitz.
The festival was a real treat for children in the run-up to the winter holidays – St. Nicholas’ Day, New Year and Christmas. United World Cultures Foundation presented all the music school’s students with sweet New Year’s gifts, and the choir collective and the vocal group “Children of Donbas” with 25 Ukrainian national costumes for performing at contests of various levels and for participating in festive events.
United World Cultures Foundation would like to thank Valeriy Pronin for the help in organizing the trip to Avdiyivka in Donetsk Region, and the sponsors: OLYMP PrJSC, DONTEM LLC and International Investment Project LLC, for the financial support to UWCF that helped us provide charitable assistance to the children.
