All-Ukrainian Drawing and Photography Contest “What is Ukraine for me?”: Results

Date: July-September 2020

In July-August 2020, the All-Ukrainian Drawing and Photography Contest “What is Ukraine for me?” took place, timed to coincide with the Independence Day of Ukraine. The contest was held among children aged 3 to 18 from Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora around the world.

The organizers of the contest are the United World Cultures Foundation (UWCF), the Ukrainian Coordination Centre for Raising Legal Awareness, and the Ukrainian Youth Law Assembly.

The contest was supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Department of Youth and Sports of the Kyiv City State Administration.

3462 participants with 6826 works took part in the contest. The works were submitted from all over Ukraine and many other countries. In Ukraine, the most active regions were Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Odesa, Poltava, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, as well as Kyiv city, and it were children from countryside who sent the overwhelming number of works. Among the Ukrainian diaspora, the most active were residents of Australia, Austria, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Cyprus, Germany, Norway, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Sweden and Switzerland.

 

The winners were chosen by prominent politicians, public figures and artists. The jury of the All-Ukrainian Drawing and Photography Contest “What is Ukraine for me?” involved:

1. Leonid KRAVCHUK – First President of Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine – the chairman of the jury.

2. Maryna POTAPENKO – Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine – deputy chairman of the jury.

3. Petro ZYKUNOV – painter, Deputy Chairman of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Honored Artist of Ukraine.

4. Mykola KOCHUBEI – graphic artist, painter, Chairman of the Graphic Artists Union in the Kyiv organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Honored Artists of Ukraine.

5. Lesia YAREMIICHUK – Head of the Youth Policy Department of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Kyiv City State Administration.



6. Oksana HUTTSAIT – Ukrainian journalist, TV presenter.

7. Mykola KUTNIAKHOV – monumental artist, painter, teacher, director of the Kyiv Children’s School of Arts No. 6 named after G. L. Zhukovsky.

8. Maryna OLKHOVA – member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

9. Kaleriia ZYKUNOVA – member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, teacher at the State Art Secondary School named after T. G. Shevchenko.



Among the huge number of good works, 35 best works from various categories and nominations were selected.

• Intermediate age group. Individual work

1st place: Alina Honcharenko (14 y.o.), Cherkasy Region, Amina Turaieva (13 y.o.), Kyiv Region, and Daria Yevdiukhina (14 y.o.), Oslo, the Kingdom of Norway

2nd place: Hanna Bielous (13 y.o.), Dnipro Region, Taras Leunov (11 y.o.), Sumy Region, and Yeva Markstedt (12 y.o.), Stockholm, Sweden

3rd place: Anastasiia Vorozhbytiuk (14 y.o.), Chernivtsi Region, Tetiana Polihas (11 y.o.), Kyiv, and Yeva Pasichna (11 y.o.), Limassol, Cyprus

• Senior age group. Individual work

1st place: Mariia Moroz (16 y.o.), Poltava, and Daria Maslienkova (16 y.o.), Luhansk Region

2nd place: Yuliia Ivanova (16 y.o.), Dnipro Region, and Izabella Domaretska (15 y.o.), Zhytomyr Region

3rd place: Alisa Bielova (15 y.o.), Kyiv Region, and Andrii Vyderko (15 y.o.), Volyn Region.

However, not only the winners received gifts from the organizers and partners of the contest. Many children from different cities and villages of Ukraine, as well as from abroad, received thanks for their active participation in the competition.

The contest ended with an exhibition of the participants’ works under the title “The Talking Map” at the Creative Festival “With Ukraine in Our Hearts”, which took place on August 23, 2020 in the Kyiv park named after T.G. Shevchenko.

“The Talking Map” consisted of short video stories recorded by the contest’s participants, which then were assembled into one video that can be read from the map using QR code. In addition, this video was broadcast from the stage during the holiday concert. The video can be viewed on our official YouTube channel at the link.
